Gates of Lodore |
A lone raft lazily
slides the surface of fluid glass,
frictionless, bottomless,
surrounded by a universe of penetrating,
tangible fog.
Visibility granted only for creatures
below, above, amidst,
Grumbling overtaken by swift strokes.
Dark canyon walls force inward,
resemble a grim face,
introduce greenery-travel to water's edge.
Illusion of pinching,
squeezing road to a single lane,
pressure propelling forward.
Illumination of a beast
overtakes night,
overpass beacons greeting,
poise reassured from chirps,
Expecting Mother's unpredictable nature.
Clusters of undergrowth, sinkhole of void converge.
Gentle paddling, succession of ripples,
exodus of the endless, black tunnel,
spotlight welcomes boat,
composure continues rowing.
Patches of darkness shift
to patterns of gleaming rays,
blotches of opposites merge
throughout a single body,
bright canyon walls revealing a silhouette.
Hopeful, prepared for the upcoming.
